Castleton University Creates New Music Partnership with SUNY Schenectady
Castleton, VT (05/15/2019) — Castleton University and SUNY Schenectady have formed a collaborative agreement that will allow students who graduate with an associate's degree in Performing Arts: Music at the upstate New York community college to earn their bachelor's degree in Music Education with licensure at Castleton.
"This highly collaborative, flexible agreement will provide SUNY Schenectady graduates an opportunity to continue on to further their education seamlessly and affordably at Castleton University. Our admissions team works tirelessly to cultivate these partnerships that provide pathways to students who might not have continued on in their educational pursuits," said Castleton President Dr. Karen M. Scolforo, who was joined by SUNY Schenectady President Dr. Steady Moono for a ceremonial signing last week.
SUNY Schenectady students who live within a bordering county of Vermont will be able to attend Castleton at the in-state tuition rate. Students will also receive Castleton's Transfer Success Scholarship, which awards $5,000 per year to full-time students. Other need-based scholarships are available.
"We are proud to partner with Castleton University on this new transfer agreement for students who are studying in our School of Music," Dr. Moono said. "They will now have an opportunity to transfer on to Castleton's excellent Music Education program for their bachelor's degree on their way to becoming music teachers."
SUNY Schenectady is a fully-accredited, not-for-profit institution and is one of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, the largest comprehensive university system in the United States. Through transferable degree and certificate programs, affordable tuition, strong student support services, and a personalized approach to learning, SUNY Schenectady provides students with a regionally-acclaimed education that empowers them to take the next step in their lives.
Castleton has already begun accepting applications as SUNY Schenectady students prepare to further their education after graduation. This agreement, along with other recent articulation agreements and partnerships, will continue to greatly enrich the undergraduate experience at Castleton and aid in the growth of Vermont's economy and professional workforce.
