Castleton Natural Sciences Department Presents Science Colloquiums Throughout Fall

Castleton, VT (10/08/2019) — The Castleton University Natural Sciences Department will present Science Colloquiums throughout the fall, featuring presenters from colleges and organizations across Vermont and beyond.

All Science Colloquium events are held from 2 to 2:50 p.m. in Jeffords Auditorium and are free and open to the public.

Oct. 11: Hilary Solomon

Hilary Solomon, district manager of the Poultney Mettowee Natural Resource Conservation District will present "Restoration and Water Quality in the Poultney Mettowee Watershed."

Oct. 18: Dr. Charles Bridges

Dr. Charles Bridges, faculty in the department of molecular and cell biology at University of Connecticut, presents "Implementation of Engineered Symbionts to Study Interactions in the Termite."

Oct. 25: Dr. Geoff Cook

Dr. Geoff Cook of New England College presents "Bioprospecting in the Marine Environment: The Search for Novel Antimicrobial Peptides in Corals."

Nov. 1: Margaret Fowle

Margaret Fowle, conservation biologist with Audubon Vermont, presents "Migration Patterns and Conservation of Golden-Winged and Blue-Winged Warblers in the Champlain Valley."

Nov. 8: Dr. Christine Carmichael

Dr. Christine Carmichael, part-time faculty in the Natural Sciences Department and owner of Fair Forests Consulting, presents "Health Impacts of Climate Change and 'Green' Solutions: The Power of Integrating Diverse Perspectives."

Nov. 15: Dr. Rory Waterman

Dr. Rory Waterman, associate dean and professor of chemistry at The University of Vermont, presents "Metal-Catalyzed Routes to Low-Valent Main Group Fragments."

Nov. 22: Randy Brooks, O.D.

Randy Brooks, O.D., part-time faculty in the Natural Sciences Department, presents "Careers in Health Care - Focus on Optometry."

Dec. 6: Kaitlyn Clark and Dr. Cynthia Moulton

Castleton University McNair Scholar Kaitlyn Clark and Natural Sciences Department faculty Dr. Cynthia Moulton present "Pollinator Diversity in Rutland County, Vermont."
