Vanessa Robertson Named Commuter of the Semester

2017 Jan 26

At Spring Convocation, senior and Rutland, VT native Vanessa Robertson was named the 2017 Spring Commuter Student of the Semester. Double majoring in Political Science and History, Robertson was recognized for her dedication to her studies and involvement in other areas of campus and the local community.

"She is a natural leader who is always there to lend a hand or sympathetic ear to her fellow students," said Professor and Director of Castleton Polling Institute Rich Clark. "She is kind, considerate, and highly driven to succeed in her goals of becoming a lawyer and to make a difference wherever she is."

Robertson studies politics in the classroom and then lives it in her community. Last year, she made local history by becoming the youngest elected member ever to the Rutland City Board of Aldermen at age 21, showing impressive leadership during her tenure. Despite her hectic schedule, she still finds time for multiple part-time jobs, serving as President of the Democratic Leadership Club, President of the Political Science Club, Vice President of the Pre-Law Club and served as a moderator for a gubernatorial debate at the Paramount Theatre last fall.

"I feel that my education at Castleton has taught me that no matter where you start, you can accomplish anything," said Robertson, who hopes to pursuit law school after graduation.

As Commuter Student of the Semester, Robertson will have the privilege of parking in the president's parking space located across from Woodruff Hall.
