Three Spartans Voted Onto CoSIDA Academic All-District Football Team

2017 Jan 23

Castleton University wide receiver Soren Pelz-Walsh and offensive lineman Jordan Stone have been voted onto the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District I Division III Football Team for the second consecutive year, while linebacker Darren Callan earned Academic All-District recognition for the first time, as the national organization of athletic communicators announced the All-District football teams.

Callan, a business management and marketing major, is second in all of Division III in total tackles per game (14.6) as well as sixth in the country in solo tackles per game (7.8). A two-time ECFC All-Academic honoree, he set the Castleton single-game record for most tackles with 21 at Mount Ida on Oct. 8, and he became the school's all-time tackles leader at Gallaudet, currently with 314 career tackles with two games remaining. With 117 total tackles this season, Callan needs just two tackles to break the Spartan single-season tackles record.

A standout performer both on the field and in the classroom, Pelz-Walsh has earned 161 receptions for 2,146 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns during his Castleton career. This season, Pelz-Walsh leads the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) with 72.0 receiving yards per game, and he is tied for the league lead in receiving touchdowns with seven. A two-time ECFC All-Academic Team honoree, Pelz-Walsh, a physical education major with a minor in health education, received the Castleton Male Coaches Award and the Castleton Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award last year.

Stone has appeared in 22 games during his Castleton career, including every game over the past two seasons. He moved into the starting lineup last season and helped the team to a 7-3 overall record. He is a business management major and has been named to the ECFC All-Academic Team twice in addition to his Academic All-District award last season. Stone has earned Dean's List honors every semester at Castleton and has been active in his team's various community service projects.
