Six Spartans Honored on Women's Lacrosse All-NAC Teams

2017 Apr 28

Tiffany Danyow was named to the All-NAC Team.

Castleton University, the regular season champion in the North Atlantic Conference, placed six representatives on the various women's lacrosse All-NAC Teams, as the accumulation of the voting by the 10 league head coaches was released Friday morning.

Three Castleton players, all seniors, earned First Team All-NAC recognition. Attacker Tiffany Danyow led the conference in assists in league games with 24, plus she was tied for fifth in the NAC with 30 goals during conference contests and fourth in the league with 54 total points. She scored multiple goals in eight of nine NAC games, including four goals in six of the team's first seven conference contests.

Defender Sabrina Hosner played a significant role in Castleton's defense holding its conference foes to 3.89 goals per game, second in the league by just 0.48 goals per game. Hosner picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers in the Spartans' victory over New England College on March 29, plus she caused three turnovers in the team's win over Maine-Farmington on April 9.

For the second straight year, midfielder Grace Johnson received All-NAC recognition after being voted Second Team All-NAC last season. In nine conference games, Johnson collected 25 goals, 11 assists, 18 ground balls, and 30 draw controls. She scored multiple goals in seven of nine NAC games this season, with a career-high six goals at Colby-Sawyer on April 22.

Two other Castleton players received Second Team All-NAC honors. Junior attacker Emily Cross collected 19 goals and 21 assists during the conference schedule, including five goals and four assists for nine total points against Maine-Farmington on April 9. Sophomore defender Erin McKenna started six of the seven league games she appeared in, stuffing the stat sheet at Thomas on April 6 with four ground balls, three draw controls, and four caused turnovers.

Senior midfielder Ashley Pelkey was named to the NAC Women's Lacrosse Sportsmanship Team, reserved for those who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Pelkey, a two-sport athlete at Castleton, quickly moved from the ice hockey arena to the lacrosse field and showed her leadership capabilities while enjoying the best season of her career with 26 goals and 14 assists in 15 games played.
