Rachel Bombardier Named ECAC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week

2015 Apr 9

After featuring in the cage for Castleton in wins over Colby-Sawyer and Norwich last week, junior Rachel Bombardier of Pittsford, VT was named the Corvias ECAC Division III New England Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.

Bombardier held a pivotal role in the Spartan defense last week, as the squad allowed just 18 goals in three contests. Against the Chargers, the junior played the second half in the cage, allowing just one goal with five saves. She was even better versus the Cadets, as the junior goalie limited the opposition to just three goals with six saves and a 66.7 save percentage to earn her second win of the season.

With this said, Bombardier turned in her best performance of the season on Tuesday to lead Castleton to an impressive, 11-7 victory in non-conference action over Worcester St. In 60 minutes of action, the junior produced a season-high 14 saves to go along with a 66.7 save percentage. She now stands at 3-0 on the season after recording 26 saves with a 58.1 save percentage and 7.43 GAA in four appearances.

This marks the fourth straight week that a Castleton Women's Lacrosse player has been recognized by the ECAC for her solid on-field performance. On Monday, the North Atlantic Conference honored Bombardier as its Defensive Player of the Week.
