Mikell Garners ECAC New England Rookie of the Week Honors

Just one day after being named North Atlantic Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, freshman Davis Mikell of the Castleton baseball team has garnered ECAC New England Rookie of the Week honors.

Mikell produced at the plate with a .412 batting average (7-for-17), including four runs scored and an RBI in the team's first four games of the season. He led the offense with six hits in Friday's doubleheader against Apprentice and No. 11 Tufts. After going 3-for-5 with two runs scored in a big win over the Builders, Mikell went 3-for-4 against the Jumbos with an RBI-double and a run scored.

Mikell followed up his hot start offensively with a stellar pitching performance on Saturday, shutting down No. 2 Cortland State in a complete game victory. The freshman went the distance in his first career start on the mound with nine strikeouts while allowing just three runs (one earned) in a 6-3 win for the Spartans.
