Michael Perrone Named Castleton College Mentor of the Week

Castleton College student Michael Perrone was recently named the Castleton College Mentor of the Week.

A Lake George resident and Physical Education major, Perrone was awarded this distinction by his fellow mentors for the extraordinary encouragement and support he provided to a local elementary school student during weekly informal meetings.

The Castleton College volunteer mentoring program matches Castleton undergraduates with local fourth and fifth grade students from the Castleton Village School. During weekly informal meetings throughout the academic year, the college student role models provide social support and encouragement for the children to aspire to attend college.

"Being able to connect with my mentee and see how I make a significant impact on his life is one of the most rewarding feelings I've ever had," said Perrone, who is also a member of the Castleton football team.

Perrone strongly believes that the mentoring program is beneficial to all college students, especially students who plan to become teachers.
