Lowell & Traill Earn Conference Recognition

2017 Sep 26

Emily Lowell and Casey Traill of the Castleton University field hockey team were named North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Player and Rookie of the Week respectively for the week ending Sept. 24.

Lowell and Traill were impressive during a week which saw Castleton go 3-0, including a crucial come-from-behind 3-1 victory over league opponent Colby-Sawyer College on Sept. 23.

Following a NAC East All-Conference selection in 2016, Lowell has continued her great form into the current season. The senior forward notched her second career hat trick in Castleton's 4-3 win versus Rensselaer on Sept. 20. Lowell scored the team's first and second goals, before returning later to notch the eventual game-winner in the 63rd minute.

On Sept. 23, the Brandon, Vt. native continued her tear by notching her team-leading sixth goal and 14th point of 2017. She was awarded a penalty stroke after a scrum in front of the net and she delivered, slapping the ball past the left side of the Colby-Sawyer keeper.

After tallying 15 shots without a score in her first four career games, Traill has come into her own over the team's last six contests. The freshman forward has five goals and a pair of assists during that span, including eight points in the past week.

The South Shields, England native began the week by assisting Lowell's second goal in Castleton's 4-3 win over RPI. Later in the week, during the team's conference win over Colby-Sawyer, Traill scored an insurance goal in the 63rd minute to clinch the victory.

Finishing off the weekend on a high note, Traill scored a pair of goals in the Spartans' 10-0 victory over Becker College. She tallied the fourth and eighth scores to move into second on the team with five goals for the season.
