Kevin Alberque Named 2014 Offensive Player of the Year

2015 Mar 4

Castleton's football team wrapped up its 2014 season on Sunday with its annual end-of-the-year banquet, which was held in Glenbrook Gymnasium.

Coach Tony Volpone and his staff recognized each individual class for its contributions both on and off the field, especially the seniors who spearheaded the Spartans' revival and helped the squad become just one of two schools in Division III to have at least a six win differential from the season before.

Kevin Alberque of Ridgefield Park, NJ was given Castleton's 2014 Offensive Player of the Year Award after turning in one of the greatest individual seasons in school history. The senior led the conference in receptions (53), yards (861) and all-purpose yards per game (165.8) while finishing with six touchdowns. He was the only player in the nation to compile more than 200 rushing, receiving, punt return and kick return yards this season. Consequently, Alberque was named the ECFC Offensive Player of the Year as well as being selected to the ECFC All-Academic Team and NEFW Division II/III All-Star Team.

Before concluding the ceremony, Volpone took a minute to give the audience a brief description of what to expect from Castleton football in 2015, and as part of this, he announced the team captains that will be leading the Spartans in the upcoming season. Those four individuals are: Jay Morgan, Leo Audy, Soren Pelz-Walsh and Jordan Tolar.

Castleton kicks off its 2015 season on September 5 with a non-conference contest at Plymouth St. On October 3, the Spartans open conference play against the defending conference champions, Husson, and will conclude the season at home when they host Norwich in the annual Sap Bucket Trophy Game against Norwich on November 14.
