Justin Beauchemin Named Castleton College Mentor of the Week

Castleton College student Justin Beauchemin was recently named the Castleton College Mentor of the Week.

A Essex Junction resident and Exercise Science major, Beauchemin joined the mentoring program during his 2013 fall semester at Castleton in addition to his role on the varsity men's soccer team. The Castleton College volunteer mentoring program matches Castleton undergraduates with local fourth and fifth grade students from the Castleton Village School. During weekly informal meetings throughout the academic year, the college student role models provide social support and encouragement for the children to aspire to attend college.

"We don't always realize how much the little things we do with them mean to our mentee," said Beauchemin. "I remember the day we had to stay inside for recess and we were all told to make Christmas cards, so I made him one and drew a picture for him. He was so excited about it that he went around showing all his friends. This showed me how important our bond was."

Beauchemin said he hopes that he can remain a positive influence on his young mentee, and plans share many more memories. He strongly encourages his fellow college students to become mentors.
