Gustav Carlsson of Örebro Län Sweden Honored as Member of NEHC All-Academic Team

The Castleton men's hockey team followed up its best season on the ice in recent years by showing success in the classroom as well, placing 18 members on the New England Hockey Conference All-Academic Team on Tuesday.

Castleton posted its first winning season on the ice in three seasons at 11-10-6, followed by its first home playoff game in as many years. Last year, Castleton set a record with 20 members on the All-Academic squad.

Seniors Bart Moran, Corbin Marcotte, Brock Labelle and Patrick Thornton each earned the honor for the third time in their careers, while Kevin Rosset and Nick Kovalchik were honored for the second time as Spartans.

Juniors Nathan Cory, Trevor Hanna, Kurt Johnson, Ryan Mulder, Ryan O'Toole, Brody Wagner and Simon Teodorsson were also named to the team for the second time. First-time recipients include junior Ryan O'Malley, along with sophomores Caleb Fizer, Wyatt Pickrell, Gus Carlsson and Dan Fitzgerald.

Each of the ten NEHC institutions was represented with 102 student-athletes in total earning the honor. Castleton led the way boasting a league-high number of honorees for the second year in a row. o be eligible for All-Academic recognition a student must carry a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have completed one full-year at their current institution.
