Gabriella Hunt Earns NAC Rookie of the Week Honors

Gabriella Hunt of the Castleton University field hockey team was named North Atlantic Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the week ending September 17.

Hunt had a career game in the Spartans 3-2 overtime victory against Westfield State. The Granville native scored the first two goals of her career to propel Castleton.

The freshman forward scored the latter of her two goals with just over four minutes gone in the sudden victory overtime period. Hunt gained a step on the nearest defender, received a pass from her teammate and put it past the goalkeeper.

With just 19 seconds remaining on the game clock, Hunt pushed her way through a scrum of players in front of the cage. She found the ball and was able to corral it enough to send it into the goal, which tied the contest at 2-2 and subsequently sent the game into extra time.

As part of her five-point day, Hunt assisted on the Spartans first goal of the game. Prior to her helper, Castleton had been scoreless for the first 62-plus minutes.
