Erin Shuttle Named NAC Women's Lacrosse Rookie of Week

2017 Apr 28

After totaling six goals in road victories over Johnson State and Colby-Sawyer last week, freshman attacker/midfielder Erin Shuttle has been named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Thursday at Johnson State, she scored a career-high four goals, including her first career free position goal, as her first two goals came in a span of 1:07 in the first half. She followed with two more goals within 3:06 in the second half, going a perfect 4-for-4 on her shots, and picking up three ground balls.

Saturday against Colby-Sawyer, she netted two goals, earned two draw controls, gathered one ground ball, and caused one turnover. It was her third consecutive multi-goal game, as she collected three goals for her first career hat trick against Lyndon State on April 12.

After scoring a goal in Castleton's victory over Green Mountain Monday, Shuttle continues to lead the Castleton freshmen with 12 goals and 12 points so far this season. After scoring just two goals while appearing in nine of the team's first 11 games, she now has 10 goals on 13 shots in the last four contests.

Shuttle's award is the first weekly honor for the Spartan women's lacrosse team this season despite the fact that Castleton just completed a perfect 9-0 conference season with a 21-3 victory over Green Mountain Monday afternoon. The Spartans last earned weekly NAC honors on May 9, 2016, when Brianna MacKay (Player of the Week) and Meghan Els (Defensive Player of the Week) were honored after leading the team to the NAC Tournament title.
