Darren Callan Selected Onto D3football.com Team of Week

Senior linebacker Darren Callan continues to receive recognition for his record-setting performance Saturday at Mount Ida College, as he was named to the Team of the Week by D3football.com.

Callan set a Castleton single game record by totaling 21 tackles, 12 solo tackles and nine assisted tackles, in the Spartans' 26-14 victory over Mount Ida. He earned eight more tackles than any other player on either team and is now second in the country with 15.8 tackles per game as well as fourth in Division III in solo tackles per game (8.6).

At the start of the second quarter, with the game still scoreless and Mount Ida already in Castleton territory, Callan stuffed a run by Gary Deanley on 4th-and-2 to force the Mustangs to turn the ball over on downs and set up the Spartans' first score of the game. In all, the Castleton defense stopped Mount Ida on all four fourth down conversion attempts, plus forced four Mustang turnovers.
