Carone Nameed NAC & ECAC Division III New England Player of the Week

2017 Apr 28

Two days after being named the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, Castleton softball's Timi Carone was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week for the Division III New England region, as announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Carone had her best week of the season in a week in which Castleton went 4-2-1, batting an impressive .542 (13-for-24) with a double, three triples and a home run for a slugging percentage of .958. Carone also scored nine times and drove in nine runs while drawing a pair of walks. The junior reached base safely in all seven contests, and scored a run in six of the seven games. Carone opened the week with a 4-for-7 day against Keene St., clubbing her second career home run--a grand slam--as part of a 10-5 win over the Owls. She followed that up with a three-hit day in a doubleheader against Plymouth St., with two of her hits going for triples. Carone then drew a walk, drove in a run and scored a run in a big win over Southern Vermont before posting one of her best outings of the season on Sunday.

The junior posted a 6-for-9 day against NAC foe UMF, going 4-for-5 in game one before backing it up with a 2-for-4 nightcap. Carone has kept it rolling this week, registering a hit in each of her last six games, including a 3-for-8 day at Thomas on Monday, and a 5-for-6 day against Lyndon on Tuesday. The junior ranks among the league leaders in batting average, RBIs and stolen bases after swiping four bags in the doubleheader against Lyndon.
