2017 Feb 21

Castleton University junior forward Amanda Beatty has added another honor for her performance last week, as she has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Region Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced Wednesday by the conference office.

Beatty, already named the NAC Player of the Week as well as to the weekly honor roll for the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA), averaged 26 points, six rebounds, and one steal per game in the Spartans' victories at Maine Maritime and at Husson, extending Castleton's winning streak to six games. She shot 62.5 percent (20-of-32) from the field, moving into second place in the league in field goal percentage at 51.1 percent and now leading the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game.

Last Friday at Maine Maritime, Beatty scored a career-high 28 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field, plus she earned six rebounds, one steal, and one blocked shot. In the fourth quarter, she scored 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field as Castleton pulled away for a 60-49 victory.

The next day, she scored 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line as the Spartans once again rallied, this time defeating NAC-leading Husson, 59-54. She added six rebounds, one assist, and one steal in the five-point victory.

Over the past five games, Beatty is averaging 22.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, shooting 63.8 percent (44-of-69) from the field and 74.2 percent (23-of-31) from the free throw line. She has reached double figures in scoring 13 times this season.
