VSCS Faculty Fellow Dr. Sherrill Blodget Presents: Choral Music of Argentina

Castleton, VT (11/18/2019) — Dr. Sherrill Blodget, director of choral activities and music department chair, will present an introduction to the vast array of contemporary music from Argentina on Thursday evening as part of her faculty fellowship.

She will be joined by the Castleton Chamber Singers, who will perform selections of choral arrangements inspired from Argentinian folk and popular music, as well as traditional dances such as the Tango.

A member of the Castleton community since 2008, Blodget was named Faculty Fellow by the Vermont State Colleges System Board of Trustees for the 2018-19 academic year. The award recognizes tenured faculty who demonstrate outstanding accomplishments in teaching and learning.

"As the VSC Faculty Fellow, I am exploring projects that will enrich my knowledge of the choral repertoire from Latin America and create opportunities to bring more of this rich repertoire to students and local audiences," she said.

At Castleton, Blodget directs the University Chorale and the Chamber Singers, teaches voice, conducting and global music, and serves as vocal director of musical theater productions.

Additionally, she has led student choirs to Cuba, Costa Rica, and the America-Cantat 8 Music of the Americas Conference in the Bahamas, and has completed a residency at the University of the Republic in Uruguay as a participant in the International Conductors Exchange Program.

The VSCS Faculty Fellow Presentation begins at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center's Casella Theater. It is free and open to the public.
